LEARING FROM MASTERCLASS AT THE BFI FILM ACAMDEMY

Daren Eagles is a cinematographer and he’s involved of taking care of the camera and shooting for the director.

I found about there is so much more for t a cinematographer than just recording the footage that the cinematographer and the director needs for the film or short, tv.

Film REVIEW

The Delivery

June 24th 2013

the story is about two girls and one of them feels suspicion about this person she knows.

the camera technique used are close up and forefront.

the editing style is pretty standard for a short film.

I think short film is aimed at teenagers around 15-17.

I thought the short film was alright.

I would recommend it for people who wants to know what makes a good standard film short.

WORKING PRACTICE AND LEGILSATION

Health and safety is important to film production because it help everyone in the production team to be wary about the hazards that could happen on set.

The key issues safety is tripping over camera lead an filming in a cramp room.

I wrote down the risk assessment and also during the making of the short film I was involved made sure that sure everyone is safe while and also making sure there isn’t anything on the floor that might cause an hazard by remove it.

The risk assessment is important because make sure that your fully aware what you got yourself into of your production of your short film.

Working relationship

The different production in my team were camera and crew , scriptwriter ,editor, director, producer, actor.

My team talk about the short what’s going to happen in the short and making suggesting.

It’s important that the production team works well together because they can reliable with each other and have right attitude towards the making of a film or short is essential.

qualities you need to work well the others are good at communicated , sharing ideas with everyone and be on time for schedule.

I need to be more confident to talk to people without second guessing myself.

The way I work with my team is by listening and suggesting an idea.

1.1 Describe areas for development in your current knowledge, understanding and skills

This needs to be completed at the beginning of the course and again at the end of the course.  It can be completed as a blog or vlog provided you answer the prompt questions.

What is your current knowledge and understanding of film?  (For example: watching film, reviewing, photography, making your own films, Youtube channel, film or media course, work experience)

I had previously completed the BFI film residential and I learnt about how to attract audiences and marketing to a variety of people. I learnt the role of film programmer and setting up film weekender. Before i came to the BFI Residential I didn’t know about audience development or knowing about what does a film programmer does.

My specific areas of interest are animation and producing. I love to know about animation and learning how to do it and make it as a full time career. I really enjoying being a producer for a short film, I learnt loads about working in a film team and how important teamwork is in the film industry.

During the course I would like to see myself as the director or as a producer. My hope is to know how to make a short film and learn as much i can about the process of making it. I would like to learn about different opportunities and ways of getting into the film industry.

I would like to practice editing at home and watch more films, thinking critically and analytically of what makes movies good and bad. I would like to learn about editing and how I can edit short films and animation in the future.

Beyond the film academy, my plan is to take a course which relates to my film interest at Hillsborough college called Games Photography and Film L1.

1.2       Take a role in the production of a short film

My role is a producer means i must oversee everything in the production and making sure everyone is safe.  I kept the film on the schedule and made sure that we filmed all the sequences we needed throughout the day.

I created a call sheet and shared it with the crew ahead of filming, the call sheet is very important because it includes all the information for the production, including crew names, dates and emergency contact information.

I wrote a risk a risk assessment ahead of filming, this is very important because it is a good way to make sure everyone is safe during the production. This requires strong communication skills, I was able to speak to people and let them know if there were any dangers throughout the production.

What planning will you do?

I’m planning to do a risk assessment to know what the risk while filming the short film, I will write a call sheet and create a shot list and schedule.

What will you do in pre-production, production and post-production?

I will oversee everything in the production and making sure that everyone is safe. This includes using a risk assessment in pre-production, planning for the filming day using a call sheet and a filming schedule.

What specific skills do you need?

Teamwork skills and communication that’s important for a producer because they will interact with the crew

What equipment will you use?

Camera, Tripod, Boom microphone ,lights, and a film studio with green screen.

What documents will you use and how?

The risk assessment and permission form to make sure that the actors have no problem been on a short film and be use for other platforms.

What other resources are needed in your film production? (For example locations, actors and anything else you will need)

The cafe and the green screen room. You will need the Director ,Producers, Cinematographer , Scriptwriter, Editor, Actors,

PERSONAL PROGRESSION PlAN

I would love to work in the animation industry because love animated films and cartoons.

I would like to keep on studying on creative media related studies.

I would like to do flycheese because I will practice animation skills and can make my own short films and send it to youtube.

I would work for any media company as a starting point for my animation career.

making stop motion short films at flycheese studio or doing at home.

My hope from BFI would help me on my film skills and knowledge , also for my CV in the future to apply for a media company.

I would like to do the BFI animation course someday.

My next step would be doing flycheese full time to learn more about animation and making at the same time.

INDUSTRY AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOMPENTS

The qualities you need to go to the film industry , you need to be good at communicated and creative.

Also you need to be creative and able to work under pressure.

You need to be problem solver because there will be times you are facing problem like the script or technical problems you should able to think of something to solve the problem.

A Producer is a person who oversee the production of a film , tv, short, .

they oversee everything from script , writing, directing, editing and arranging finance.

A Director is in charge of film ,tv ,short.

They are charge of artistic and vision of the film.

They direct actors on what they say on script or if they directing improvise

they lines and they direct technical teams on what angle the camera and everything else in place .

Cinematographer is the person who charge of the camera and make technical and artistic image related to the film tv, short.

Cinematographer are usually holding the camera or have it on a tripod.

Screenwriter who writes screenplay for film , tv , short.

Editor are people process and preparing for a film ,tv,short, writing, photography, visual, audible. They make corrections and other adjustment and so they can make an accurate completed version for a film and tv.

My progression will go to flycheese studio to practice animation and one day go to Sheffield Hallam University to do a degree in animation.

Review technical

My role was a producer my strengths are making sure that everyone was on task. I think I done well as a producer. I feel like I can express my opinions on films easy.
